Thursday, November 5th, 2009Today I thought I would just make a quick post to clarify what actually happens to your xbox 360 console when you get the now infamous red lights problem.
Basically, as I have described in other posts on this blog, if you turn your Xbox 360 console on and you get a variation of the red lights as shown in the diagram below then it probably means your machine is experiencing some issues with internal heating.
However, you need to be certain that this is the case before you take the next step.
You could be lucky and it may not be a serious error with your console but rather something as simple as the AV cable not being detected. So before you run back to store waving your receipt and claiming a refund, read your manual thoroughly to be certain of what the problem is.

Xbox 360 Freezing Problems Solved
Monday, November 2nd, 2009Today I want to give you some reassurance that your Xbox problems can be a thing of the past . . . if you have the right information.
If your machine has been suffering from freezing problems or the now infamous 3 red rings of death then all is not lost.
If like me, your machine started to go wrong as soon as the warranty ran out and you are being asked to pay extortionate amounts of cash to get it repaired then there could be a cheaper alternative.
When it happened to my console I wasn’t prepared to pay through the nose to get it fixed, in fact I got quite angry. Why the hell should I have to fork out my hard earned cash to pay for a machine that goes wrong after only a few months of usage.
They should have built the damn thing better in the first place, I mean God knows they aren’t exactly cheap!!!
It’s just a symptom of the poor customer service that seems to be rife in this day and age – but anyway, I’m not going to fill this post with endless rants about poor quality control and customer service etc.
As soon as my xbox 360 died on me I set about searching on the Internet for a solution and I found LOTS of iinformation. Some of it was helpful and some of it was downright stupid.
Oh and by the way, if you come across advice that tells you to wrap your Xbox 360 in a towel then please please ignore it. This strategy claims to be effective if your machine is suffering from poor quality soldering joints (see my post entitled ‘The Reason’ for more iinformation) and basically the thinking is that if you can get your machine to heat up internally by wrapping it up in a towel thus blocking the heat vents then the solder should re-melt and re-seal the poor joints, absolute nonsense.
I was looking for advice that gave a bit more substance and helpful practical solutions and I’m happy to say I finally found it.
The 3 Red Light Fix guide is a downloadable ebook detailing the steps you need to take to repair your Xbox. The best thing about the guide for me though has to be the video tutorials that come with it.

Why Your Xbox 360 Keeps Freezing
Friday, October 23rd, 2009In this post I want to go into the actual reasons why your xbox 360 keeps freezing up during gameplay and also discuss a few of the other annoying errors people have been experiencing with their machines.
I won’t go into any great technical detail here – there are plenty of other websites that do that and if you want a quick and reliable fix without having to trawl through tons of information then you can find one HERE
The most basic explanation for why the xbox 360 has such a high failure rate can be attributed to one main reason, it’s design is fundamentally flawed leaving it prone to performance issues triggered by overheating.
The xbox 360 console is one of the most powerful machines on the market today, in fact I can remember prior to it’s release people used to rave about how Microsoft have managed to condense the power of a desktop PC into a gaming console – and I’m afraid therein lies the problem.
Take apart any PC or laptop today and you will find that an essential component of the machine is its cooling system. The components inside get extremely hot during usage and need a system of cooling fans in place to keep them from overheating.
There are also many other theories as to why the Xbox 360 has such a high failure rate ( some sources have quoted it as being as high as 50%) including:
* A fundemental design flaw in the layout of the internal components leading to poor dispersal of internal heat build up consequently leading to the machine overheating.
* Microsoft attempting to save money in design costs by building certain components themselves (namely the graphics chip) rather than outsourcing the design. Microsoft have subsequently gone back to outsourcing the design of the graphics chip after their own designs suffered multiple failures.
* Soldering and assembly of various components not being of a high enough standard leading to circuits being broken due to cracking solder joints.
These are just summaries of the main explanations for the xbox 360 high failure rate and there is an excellent Wikipedia article going into even more detail on all of these areas.
So, as you can see the console does seem to have its fair share of problems mostly related to the machines overheating issues.
As an enetrtaining sidenote, some amazingly creative people have solved the heating problem by inventing their own cooling systems. Check out this amazing video below:
Obviously, I don’t recommend anyone try this method unless you really know what your doing.
